What to do with a Crack Windshield?

At one time or another, you may have heard this story of some friend whose car’s windshield gets hit by a sharp rock or some falling debris. You may have laughed about it, but what if it actually happened to you? Shall you need to replace your crack windshield or is there a chance for it to be repaired and save you money and time?

The answer depends on how big the crack windshield is and where the damaged part is located. Is it only chipped or really irreparably cracked? Does the crack extend to the driver’s side? If the crack is only small, spanning only a few inches in length, you may consider using a polymer to glue it and also to prevent the crack from getting wider or spreading or stemming out. You may also ask your trusted mechanic to check with a glass expert who can help you make the crack less noticeable.

However, if the crack is serious, or if it extends to the driver’s part, then it is advisable for you to get it replaced. If this happens to you, you need to call your car insurance and ask if it is included in your insurance or your deductibles. Describe also how badly it looks so that they can assess what to do. An agent will look at it, and in less than an hour, using a polymer, he can easily apply it on your windshield. Some insurance firms offer this for free. Now, if it really needs to be replaced, expect a 200 dollar installation fee.

You may think it is quite a high price but if the driver’s view is already obstructed by this crack or he may not be able pass car inspection, or be reprimanded by law officers, then you’d have to get it replaced. You must know that windshields are built to protect us and not cause us harm while driving. It may cost us more to fix serious accidents if we refuse to repair or replace a crack windshield.
